Below are descriptions of the tools.
Professional quality tools for tuning and adjusting reeds, including:
- Super sharp draw scraper mounted in pin vise handle – The first time I had a machine shop make one of these tools for me, it cost $120, and the prototype is not as easy to use or as sharp as what I now offer. You will find that with a little practice, this tool will peel away brass from a reed in way that is easy to control and predict. This tool is not intended for stainless steel reeds. You need diamond files or abrasives like sanding wands or motorized grinding tips for stainless steel reeds
- Embossing (burnishing) tool – This tool is what I use daily for embossing slots on custom harmonicas. It is a precision ground stainless steel burnishing tool mounted in a pin vise. This end of the tool is adapted from burnishing tools used by printmakers on etchings and mezzotint plates. I have come up with an ideal shape based on years of trial and error making tools. You hold this tool like a pen between thumb and forefinger, and you can close one side of a slot at a time. This is useful when the reeds are slightly off center (very common). The other end of the pin vise is a highly polished tube that you can use to emboss both sides of the slot at the same time.
- High quality Grobet (Swiss made) file for fine tuning.
- 2 reed lifter/reed wrench tools, designed to support reeds for the accurate use of files and scrapers. One is for blow reeds, the other for draw reeds or exposed reeds. The draw reed support tool now has a new wrench design that allows you to move a reed that you are attaching with a screw in all directions, including backwards (see video).
- 4 in 1 screwdriver that fits most harmonica screws.
- Shim stock pieces for de-burring slots or supporting reeds.
- NEW – Brass reed prod / lifter – gives you new levels of control for reed shaping. Hand made from thick brass stock to give you power and control for shaping reeds.
- A 1/8th inch thick black felt tool wrap to protect your tools. The tools are also wrapped in a blue jewelry polishing cloth, and there is also a thick bright white jewelry polishing cloth for a bright, clean work surface.
