Harmonica Tools

R. Sleigh Harmonica Tool Kits

Professional quality tools for tuning and adjusting reeds, including:

  • Super sharp draw scraper mounted in pin vise handle – The first time I had a machine shop make one of these tools for me, it cost $120, and the prototype is not as easy to use or as sharp as what I now offer. You will find that with a little practice, this tool will peel away brass from a reed in  way that is easy to control and predict.
  • 2 files – one super high quality Grobet (Swiss made) file for fine tuning, and one average quality file for rough work or for tuning reeds that have solder on the tips (allows you to save the other file for brass) Both are triangular files. The grobet is smaller and thinner than the other file.
  • 2 reed lifter/reed wrench tools, designed to support reeds for the accurate use of files and scrapers. One is for blow reeds, the other for draw reeds or exposed reeds.
  • 4 in 1 screwdriver that fits most harmonica screws.
  • Shim stock pieces for curving reeds
  • NEW – Brass reed prod / lifter – gives you new levels of control for reed shaping.
  • PDF – Detailed instructions with drawings and color coded tuning charts. Includes descriptions of how to check and improve reed curvature, and tuning plus many other aspects of harmonica maintenance.
  • This also includes a free phone consultation with me to answer questions about the use of tools, and email support as well)

Price: $85 + shipping ($8 in USA, $15 international )

I am out of leather tool wraps for the Deluxe tool kit, and I have been unable to get in touch with my source for them. I am working on a solution for this and will post as soon as I have news.

Dear Mr. Sleigh, It’s been a few months since I bought your book. Today I was able to alter the tuning on a couple of my harmonicas. Nothing fancy, just Paddy Richter tuning. I am just so pleased with the book, the instruction is so clear: the graphics are well drawn and the text is to the point and easy to read. Prior to attempting this, I had no experience working on harmonicas. So far, I have learned with your book how to set up my harmonicas to play well (reed offset, etc) and now how to alter the tuning to fit my own needs. That is just great!. I also have found your videos on youtube very easy to follow and very informative. I would like to thank you for the effort you have put into the book, I can tell you truly love what you do! ---- PS- In the past, I thought the price of the book was a little high but I no longer do, I believe it is worth it’s weight in gold! — Franklin A. Hi Richard, I just read your article re: Just Intonation. It’s the first time I’ve read an understandable explanation. It was concise. I am slowly going through your book, “Turbocharge Your Harmonica”, which I purchased from you at SPAH’s ’09 convention, and it, too, is pretty easy to follow. I am just beginning to try my hand at rejuvenating my old collection of diatonics, so understanding what method I’m trying to tune for is important. Thanks for putting it out there. Regards, — Doug Parrish
